It is sad to see what the sports world is dealing Minnesota fans these days. It started with Us giving away David Ortiz for nothing and he turns into an every year all star, MVP, clutch World Series champion for the Red Sox.
Now Randy Moss has joined him. After being a baby for a couple years he is back on track to be one of the best WR in the history of the NFL. His numbers so far this year could bring him MVP votes. Plus I would bet that most experts are looking to the Patriots to be in the Super Bowl again this year.
Now KG the only face the Twolves could ever be proud of having on their team. Sorry Pooh, Sam Mitchell, and Laetner. We had the chance to have a great team with him as the center point forever but now he is gone. The Celtics have built them a chance to contend. Everywhere I look I see that they are the most feared team in the East. The season will show us but the pattern is there.
How come so much pain has to be a part of being a Minnesota sports fan?

Ok Lets get started again!
First Congrats to Ryan "Big Deal" Carlson for getting the coveted Baseball Championship. Even while sending me a text saying "Im losing touch with baseball". I will be the first to say that better not happen. Now its October with the playoffs including a impossible run by both the Phillies and the Rockies. Not to mention the Cubs(everyone has to cheer for this team). Plus RCs fav team the Angels. Then it is that Hot Stove time where the Twins will be a major player. I think we can hold you into the game Ryan.
I will try and get something on here once a week. And remember anyone can post on here so please do. I need help to keep this going.
All stats are up to date as well.

Santana - Yankees (maybe)
What do you do? I think it was good to get something for Castillo but I think we should have made a move to get more power hitting, 3rd, or left field. Everyone needs pitching and we have an abundance so why not take a chance while these young guys stock is high to get some non-AAAers in our lineup. I must agree with Santana on this one. The Braves proved in the 90's you can get to the playoffs with pitching but that doesn't mean your going to win there. Scoring runs keeps you in the game. Like the Yankees this year so were the Mavericks of the early 90's just outscore people. Defense & Pitching are great but if your pitchers need to have less than 2 ERA what are your chances, really!!! Twins need to get realistic and start putting major leaguers back in the lineup instead of these A, AA, and AAA players. Soon we will be known as the KC Royals because we can't hit which means we will be looking like the mid-90's Twins. See below for Santana's take.
Johan Santana is the latest to question the Twins trade of Luis Castillo to the Mets.
The Twins ace told the Star Tribune this about management: "I'm not surprised. That's exactly how they are. That's why we're never going to go beyond where we've gone."
He didn't stop there, venting his frustrations at length and at one point saying "Why waste time when you're talking about something that's always going to be like that? It's never going to be beyond this point. It doesn't make any sense for me to be here, you know?"
The two-time Cy Young winner is a free agent after the 2008 season and the thrifty club figures to have a lot of trouble keping him around.

Say it aint so
we'll miss you KG. i am torn on this one. part of me says it is time to start over, the other hates to see the only face of the t-wolves leave us (no offense - randy brewer, pooh richardson, tony campbell, stoyko vrankovic and scottie brooks - we miss you too).
the wolves will be hard pressed to find another kevin garnett. he is a once in a lifetime player to come through your city. i feel fortunate to have been able to watch him night after night for this long.
lets hope he can go to beantown and win a ring. it may be easier for him to get to the playoffs and have success in the eastern conference, it will still be tough to win a championship.

Wow This is amazing!
PROSPECT WATCH: Top players down on the farm
Rick Ankiel, StL, OF (ETA – All-Star break) The Cardinals offense ranks 27th in the league in Runs and 21st in HRs so, after slugging three home runs on Saturday for the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, will the Cardinals be so bold as to consider Ankiel for promotion soon? A once dynamic pitching prospect that was never able to overcome a mental implosion in the 2000 postseason, Ankiel has transformed himself into a power-hitting outfielder. He is tied for the Pacific Coast League lead in HRs (19) and is also sitting on a .282 BA and 52 RBI in 57 games. At 27 years old, it seems that, if the Cardinals are serious about him as a hitter, his shot as a big league hitter has to come soon. In a year when Josh Hamilton has made major league waves, an Ankiel call-up would be just another slice of feel-good pie.
That is some talent!

Belmont Final
With the only one to vote for the girl to win Cam pulled off the Belmont in big fashion. He picked 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 7th almost getting every horse right. Nice work. We had four no shows on this race Grant, Chet, Nate, and Nick. I have tabulated the scores and added them to the total standings you can find those on the side.
Congratulations to Eric for winning the 2007 Triple Crown. The trifecta was enough to easily take this years championship. Dale stayed consistent to finish in second place. And Cam finished strong to pull off third.

Two firsts this week
I got my first tattoo and it was great. It didnt hurt it was a little uncomfortable at times though, but it came out just as I hoped.

And at my 15th baseball game of this year Corey Hart the right fielder of the Brewers finally showed some respect and threw me a ball. I think the entire stadium went quiet when he turned picked me out of the crowd and threw a perfect strike to me. He gets ranked second on my fav Brewers list still behind Prince.

Baseball Minute
So here are some observations and thoughts from the past week or so in MLB. I am probably alone in thinking that ARods yell to get the Blue Jays 3B to drop the ball was a great move. That is somebody that wants to win!
What are some other plays in baseball that you consider not true to the game?
How about that steal of home! Aaron Hill getting Pettitte. That was great I wish that there were more of those exciting plays during games.
Twinkies sweep the White Sox and get praised by Ozzie that is nice. Who is this AJ guy that they talk about trying to step on Morneaus ankle. Didnt we trade him for Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser? Holy crap that could become one of the most lopsided trades of all-time. I think we can forget about the Herschel trade now.
A fantasy thought...
There are a lot better OF on the free agent list then some of the guys that are on teams.

We have a Trifecta!
Preakness results have been added to the standings.
Eric hit the trifecta correctly picking Curlin, Street Sense, and Hard Spun to finish 123
So he added to his lead in a big way.
Our picks together we had 8 out of 9.
Eric had four horses total also picking Xchanger at 8th. Chet and Matt each had three.
If you want all the result I can post them.
One more race to go!

Kentucky Derby Results
I had to come up with a good way of scoring that rewarded the people who picked the winner 2nd, 3rd , etc... .
I gave bonus pts of 500 to 1st, 250 to 2nd, 100 to 3rd as well as every horse you picked in order would gain you 500 more points until you missed one. I will explain better when in person.
Anyway as a group we picked the correct position of 14 of the 20 horses. Not bad. Eric led the way with 4 and Krum had 3. Matt, Chetley, Dale , and Krum picked the winner. Dale picked first and second correct. Nice work. The standing are on the side of this page.
The next race is coming soon be ready.

The sweetest swing
Baseball Tonight asked this question to the viewers yesterday. Who has the sweetest swing in baseball right now? Then also went back to anyone that you remember seeing swing the bat. I love Griffeys HR swing it looks so effortless and the way he sets the bat down behind him just looks so smooth. My second place is Manny Ramirez. The strength that he shows when hehits a bomb and watches it fly is awesome plus he is a righty and they never get credit for sweet swings.

Who do you guys like present and past?
And one thing forget LeCroy and the Plummer of today does anyone think the the Royals new phenom Billy Butler looks like a high school version of Plumoff?

The Farm
So who is going to be the next to make the step up to the Twins this year? Everyone sees Garza coming up first but I have seen some names and numbers that look like the Twins have a few more guys ready to make that big step. Baker, Slowey, and Manship are the AAA arms that look to be overpowering that level and the bat of Moses could be the Gaetti piece to reliving the 87 magic. What is the talk from around the Cities and the rest of the State? I have to search for stuff and am probably missing the key ideas that the Twins are thinking with all of these top prospects. I would love to more about thse guys and when they are projected to see major league duty.

March Madness to April Anxiety
Definitely has produced all the excitement that we wait for each year. This years picks have cmae down to which teams you picked in the Final Four. All of the upset picks didnt mean anything as long as you had those big four. OSU, UCLA, GTown, and Fla. This next weekend will not disappoint. Can Florida be the first to repeat since Duke? Who wins the battle of the big men between Oden and Hibbert? Can UCLA revenge their championship blow out game at the hands of the Gators? Who will have that One Shining Moment?
Speaking of this next weekend we move to April 1 and baseball Opening Day! We all have had our teams sitting there for a few weeks now and some tweaked a little but we can see who starts out hot and if that hot streak can keep you in first place all year like Plummer did a year ago. I will be at Opening Day at Miller Park for the first time as the up and coming Brewers take on the Dodgers. Could this be the year for the Brew Crew? I know RC is headed to opening day and I hope a few more are joining him. What does the rotation look like for the Twins? Will it be enough with Mauer, Morneau, Cuddy, Torii and the Pirhanas? How much fun would an I-94 series be?
Then be ready because it is also Amen Corner time. The Masters kicks off Thursday April 5th. Look for an email to find where to make your picks. The past few years has seen Phil hand the jacket to Tiger then have him hand it back last year. Will Tiger make Phil hand it over again? What happens when it is won back to back? There will be a field of about 100 guys make the right picks and you too can feel what its like to wear the Green Jacket.
Also NASCAR rolls on with Gordon, Burton, and Johnson the top drivers even in the Car of Tomorrow. What should Schultze do when Martin doesnt race? Drop him and pick up someone else and hope to get him back or stay with him and take a big 0 everytime he doesnt show up?
A lot of questions coming in the next few weeks. Enjoy the SCFL way.

Sheet of Integrity
This year you may be like me and filling out many brackets for a bunch of different pools. But there is just one SCFL bracket and this one counts more than any of the others. This is your bracket that will let you brag a whole year that you were #1. So pick careful and wise. Who are your upsets? Will it be that 12-5 matchup that gets one again? When and who will be the first #1 to go down?
If anyone listens to Mike and Mike in the morning they have discussed their Sheet of Integrity. You only get one shot at picking the tourney and every other bracket is just to cover your own @$$.
This is the first points for the trophy so make it count.

Stadium
I met yesterday with Legislators at the Capital as part of a teachers union day there. Anyway I went and saw Finstad, we visited for about 45 minutes, and he said that the media is making a big deal about this stadium land, that the 2 parties are much closer than it appears and that the stadium is by no means behind schedule. He attributes a lot of this media coverage to sweeps month last month. But on the other side of the issue, he is a politician, but an old friend. See you Saturday.

Baseball Draft
Date and Time: March 3 @ 3-4pm
Place: Krums Basement unless the weather turns quickly then it will be in RCs garage.
What you need to bring: Yourself, Your draft sheet, Your checkbook($140 with the addition of NBA & NHL playoffs)
I hope everyone can make it. Schultze I know you have your Dads bday. I hope everyone has had a chance to look at their list at least once. We will be picking 20 rounds and we dont want to have it last all night so if it starts to drag we will have a time limit for picks. No one wants to be the Vikings and lose their place. I have all the names and a board just like we had for football.
Krum what round are you going for Bonds?

When Dale wasnt playing Rubber Dingy he came up with this.
The Beer Prayer
>>Our Lager,
> Who art in barrels,
> Hallowed be thy drink.
>> Thou will be drunk
> (And I will be drunk),
> At home and in the Tavern.
>> Give us this day our foamy head,
> And forgive us our spillages
> As we forgive those who spill against us.
>> And lead us not into incarceration
> But deliver us from hangovers
>> For thine is the beer,
> The bitter, and the lager,
> Forever and ever
> Barmen.

Johann Santanas Spring Training
"How about 12 years for $500 million?" Gardenhire said, only half-kidding. "How about we give you the city of Roseville? ... Come on. It has two lakes. ... No? How about Minnetonka?"
Santana said he was holding out for the whole state of Minnesota. Gardenhire told him he'd see what he could do and both of them laughed before going back to work.

Our Set up & Mock Drafts
Yahoo sign up starts tomorrow so look for that in your email.
Draft will take place on Sat March 3rd hopefully at RC or Krums or a bar(let me know)
Our stats and scores will stay basically the same as last year:
Hitters: H=1, 2b=2, 3b=3, HR=6, RBI=2, R=1, SB=3, BB=1, K=-1
Pitchers: W=8, K=2, SV=3, IP=1, CG=10, SHO=15, ER=-1
Rosters will be:C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, OF, Utility
SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P
2 bench players
1 DL spot
If there is anything that you think we could change let me know. I have seen rosters that use CI and MI(corner infield and middle infield) this would add more players and make the draft a little more important. Or if points need to be added or whatever just post it here. Thanks.
Here is a mock draft from mlb.com to get you thinking. Obviously they probably dont use the same system the we do.
First-Round Picks
1 Albert Pujols 1B
2 Jose Reyes SS
3 Carlos Beltran OF
4 Joe Mauer C
5 Carl Crawford OF
6 Alex Rodriguez 3B
7 Alfonso Soriano OF
8 Chase Utley 2B
9 Miguel Tejada SS
10 Lance Berkman 1B/OF
11 Ryan Howard 1B
And another:
1. Pujols
2. Reyes
3. Howard
4. Soriano
5. Ortiz
6. Santana
7. ARod
8. Carpenter
9. Cabrera
10. Wright
11. Morneau
And Last one:
1. Pujols
2. Reyes
3. Howard
4. Soraino
5. Santana
6. Crawford
7. Ortiz
8. ARod
9. Wright
10. Beltran
11. Cabrera
So I think it is safe to put Pujols next to RCs name unless he is more of a Twinkie then I think.

The Big Wolf

With yet another triple double, KG made sure that the Twolves wouldnt be the team to end the Celtics long losing streak. I dont feel that the Wolves are a good enough team to do anything this year unless Garnett decides to be a little more selfish and turns it on in the fourth quarters of games to turn those 2 point losses into 4 point wins. If KG could go out and score 30 every single night and show more dominance that he is definitely capable of doing the Wolves could turn this season into a winning one. From the looks of the race right now they should be in the playoffs if they put any type of run together. Do you think that they deserve to be in the playoffs? Is there a guy thta MN radio is talking about that might be on the way to help KG out? Does anyone even care about maybe the best MN pro after Kirby in our history?

Everyone be ready to do this draft possibly the first or second weekend in March. I will be coming up to see my new nephew or neice. Because of travel I will only make it to the cities once in March I will send out an email for the exact date. Make any comments you have about where we should have the draft. Thanks

A new era begins!
This will the home to all comments, pictures, anything to do with anything. Stop all the emails back and forth about nothing. Post your comments for everyone to read.
Lets start by having some predictions. What major thing will happen to MN sports this year?

I will be sending everyone the way to be a SCFL contributor. Then you can post anything you want.
